my PSDs let me show u them
Saturday, December 29, 2007

The more I think about it, the less sense it makes to release "full permission" textures in-world--mostly because, at best, you'll get a "frankenskinned" look because you can't change specific highlights and shadows independently of the entire skin.

What you need is what I work with--my PSDs:

Edit: O HAI! I moved my resources to a better organized page and host!

how CAN this get any better?

Lizbeth Marlowe ( December 30, 2007 at 10:02 AM )

Thank you for doing this! I've been looking for a way to learn some ps skillz and attempt to create something with my new PS CS3 and Wacom intuous tablet...you've given me the next piece and I thank you for that. I'm looking forward to learning bunches. Do accept tips for this wonderful gift you've given us?

zebragrrl ( December 30, 2007 at 10:35 PM )

I love you.

Jordana Heron ( January 1, 2008 at 7:54 AM )

Eloh, You really are amazing! Thank you for doing this. I have been needing a way to examine a good skin more closely for ages. I've found it's the only way I'm really able to learn anything about texturing in SL. Without an idea what the flat version looks like, and how things come together in the end, I can never figure it out. So, thank you!

I was also wondering if you would have a problem with having the skins offered (fully credited) in a freebie avatar I've put together for newbies, and some shapes I'm about to release in my shop. I was thinking of including the humility skin in the appropriate skin tone, and including a landmark to your store, with a note telling them to visit, if they like the skin and want the full set in their tone, or a different one.

One of the shapes is up on my blog at the moment, if you'd like an idea of what I'm doing. Let me stress that if you say no, I will NOT do it. I just adore the skins so much, that even when they weren't free and full perm, I was designing these shapes while wearing them, so they all kinda came out looking gorgeous together.

Jen Shikami ( January 2, 2008 at 6:14 PM )

Thank you so much! I bought some of your skins a couple weeks ago because I so admired them (especially the lips) and because I'm trying to design my own.

And here you are all generously sharing! I'm totally impressed!

I plan to give out my basic skins for free and make any others as inexpensive packs of many colors... so I'll be trying to pass the generosity along!

Eloh, wow o.0 I've always admired your work, especially on the dark/african toned skins, the fact that you're offering the PSDs for them and your other skins freely...I'm just really gracious, perhaps now other skin makers will take a cue and study your choice of colour selection, and stop making the black/african american skins look like jacked up barbie dolls, rofl, thanx again eloh <3 *goes back to silently stalking you from afar*

Rheta Shan ( January 5, 2008 at 6:01 AM )

Thank you so much for doing this, Eloh. Your skins are beautiful (I bought them even before your offered them for free), and releasing the underlying files will finally allow me to put my tattoos where they belong. A modest ambition, maybe, but still a dream come true. You are a most generous an gifted person.

Unknown ( January 5, 2008 at 11:37 AM )

are you going to bring out any male skins??

Sakai Openlife ( January 6, 2008 at 10:34 AM )

Would you allow these to be shared with everyone in the Openlife Grid?
(dropped into everyone's inventory)

sakai openlife (re: openlifegrid.com)--yus, feel free to use, copy, modify, and distribute these skins in OpenLife or any other OpenSim grid/server.

Sakai Openlife ( January 7, 2008 at 5:02 PM )

Excellent! Much appreciated, everyone will enjoy your work. We'll add it to default inventory.

Eloh, thank you for doing this. It's very generous of you. It's sad to see that some people are abusing what you've given them already but it's nice to see others are using it as a learning tool. It's also a great way to get your name out there! Great thinking and thanks again for being so generous.

flawless ( January 12, 2008 at 6:35 AM )

Is there an alternate location to download the PSD files? For these and the Lf0 I consistently get a database error message. :(

eloheliot ( January 14, 2008 at 7:30 PM )

alysia: I couldn't log into mediafire all weekend--I suppose they might've had some technical difficulties. If you know of any better, free filehosting providers, please let me know, and I'll put my stuff there! ^^

Unknown ( January 18, 2008 at 11:53 PM )

Thank you just doesn't cover it!!!! I've spent countless L's on skins trying to figure out exactly how everything is mapped! These are not only fabulous for learning how to make skins but clothing as well! I don't have to guess where a shoulder strap will end up! You're a priceless jewel for doing this!

Princess ( January 20, 2008 at 3:25 PM )

I'm sure you've heard this a lot, but thx so much. I've been in SL over 2 years and have been looking for a good tutorial to learn how to make skin. This is perfect. Thanks again. :)

Kirahfaye ( January 25, 2008 at 6:53 PM )

Thanks so very much for offering your skins and files for free! I have PSP9, so I don't know if I can do anything with them, but I'll sure try hard! Hehe! Also, would you be agreeable if I sold any skins I might be able to fashion for a very modest fee at my new resident shoppe? I'm only looking to help with the upkeep of the place while providing new players with some quality items. At any rate - thanks again for the opportunity to play with these skins!

Kirahfaye ( January 28, 2008 at 4:07 AM )

Eloh, when I try to pull up the face PSDs for CF, LF, and LFY I get an error message. I can access the upper and lower ones just fine (and I can access all the files for the E series also). Is anyone else having this problem? *pout*

NelC ( January 31, 2008 at 2:30 AM )

I'm getting a completely blank page for all of these. Is it a problem with Mediafire?

eloheliot ( February 2, 2008 at 9:59 PM )

NelC: Yus, might've been MediaFire... I've had weeks where I couldn't log in to MediaFire to post new stuff :(

Lindsay ( February 24, 2008 at 2:27 AM )

i've been wearing the face of my own creation for a year but haven't gotten around to shading properly and doing the body, so thank you for feeding my laziness with this shortcut XD

Unknown ( February 26, 2008 at 11:45 AM )

Eloh, even though I don't directly benefit, this is an incredibly generous thing you've done.

**applause**

(and juntje, don't be greedy)

Lindsey M. ( February 27, 2008 at 2:16 AM )

Fun Fact: I'm in love with you.

Skin is my nemesis, and to be able to see someone's thought process almost made me cry.

You win.

kai ( March 22, 2008 at 11:41 PM )

First of all: thanks so much
I have the same problem as Fionne however. The facefiles all tell me they're not a psd or give me error 565 :(
Must be something I overlooked?
Still very wonderful though!

Wizzy Timeless ( April 5, 2008 at 2:07 AM )

Thank you for doing this......It shows a level of generosity rarely found in SL.or anywhere for that matter. I am enjoying the learning process so much....and you artwork is simply fantastic........

* gives you a huge hug !!

Unknown ( May 8, 2008 at 4:53 AM )

Thank you so much eloh. Thank you for helping us. This is all I can say. I've been designing a while but I got to creating skins but never got the shading or anything down. This helped me even as a skin and clothing designer thank you so much for helping us. Very few times do we see people who will genuinely help.

Gen Nicholls ( May 9, 2008 at 3:30 AM )

Can't thank you enough!

Siouxsie Gothly ( May 28, 2008 at 8:52 PM )

Eloh! I hope you don't tire from hearing it, but thank you so much for your generosity! I've read some tutorials that say to create the skins in file size 1024x1024 for higher detail. Have you noticed a difference in skin quality/appearance once on the AV by working in 512x512? Thanks!

Griffin ( June 3, 2008 at 11:40 PM )

I've never seen a difference with 512x512, no loss of quality. The 1024x1024 take a while to load, with no noticeable increase in quality.

A 512x512 face image displays at about 100x100 when you use the the standard camera distance.

mopar126 ( June 7, 2008 at 9:53 AM )

The Idea is work in 1024x1024 so you can better detail your work. After you save your .tga open that file and resize it to 512x512 and sharpen if needed. The upload to SL and wala, good detail at lower rez times.
These Are GREAT! TY TY TY
By reviewing all of these .psd's I think I can finally figure out my shading problems. Oh so much studying to do of your GREAT WORK!

Seshat Czeret ( June 20, 2008 at 10:31 AM )

This is extremely generous of you, and I am very grateful. Thank you.

Corgi ( June 20, 2008 at 11:40 PM )

Ms. Eliot,

Your skin files are wonderful and thankfully Paint Shop Pro can convert the PS files without too much trouble. However, there must be something in the save settings for the Re PSDs which collapses the file - it's almost 4 times larger than the upper and lower body files, but opens up with only one single layer.

Would you be willing to take a look at this? I'd really like to work with the Re skin, but without the face, there's not much point. :/ And I can't afford PhotoShop itself.

Most appreciatively,

Tanarian Davies

Lumiere Noir ( July 17, 2008 at 8:02 AM )

Eloh,

A thousand thank yous, this is wonderful, and quite a kick start for me to get into making my own skins...all of us really. I am in your debt.

Calla Cela ( July 27, 2008 at 11:35 PM )

Eloh, thank you for taking the guess work out of where things go.
Now I am trying to figure out how to add 'hair' to the skin for high traffic events.
The first attempt look like my brain had oozed its way out of my scull.

Wow! Thank you so much for the files, it was so much more than I was expecting. I was so happy when I received your skins as a freebie and now I can share the happiness :) Me and my friends are creating a free noobie pack and these will be awesome for it.

Also means I can finally see how the flat texture actually looks so I can tackle some skin ideas of my own and save my lindens for shoes!!!

Thank you thank you! your a Star!

Who are you ( September 25, 2008 at 10:02 PM )

OMG!!!! And to think that I JUST IM'd you in SL a few days ago and just found this , JUST now.
Thank you so much for doing this, this not only shows openness and content, but as well as a TRUE way of helping those that REALLY want to make something for themselves and their friends and not charge 100L$ to 5KL$ for these skins as I have been seeing in the Asian (Japanese) SIMs lately. Same skins (so they say on the box "another").
I LOVE your work on these skins. I think I still have all ofthe original ones as well.

Now I can make things for my sisters and neices and brother.
Thank you SO MUCH Fo doing this.

I dont suppose there are male skins available like these.. I love this, slowlying going through them one by one

Unknown ( January 3, 2009 at 3:33 PM )

But aren't these freely available in SL files? these skins look like exact replica of SL character files...
I mean...just a bit of extra shading here and there doesn't make them all that unique...unless it's just a sheer coincidence....am really sorry, if i am wrong

Griffin ( January 6, 2009 at 11:41 AM )

@dimentions:

LOLZ.

You are definitely mistaken.

Novafire ( May 31, 2009 at 1:32 AM )

I am wondering if it is right if someone may be selling these on xstreet? I bought them and they look a lot like these. :(
